I’ll end this 30-day saga with a very personal image: the view from my beloved cottage outside Dornoch…. A simple pasture, pines, a rock wall, but such drama!

Deep July cold followed us as we drove the northern Highlands. The dark, flat waters near Loch Loyal, the wind in the grasses, and the gray, foreboding clouds suggest both the vastness the land and the intensity of the weather.

I was up early for a morning walk and caught this sunrise over Broadford Bay from the Isle of Skye.

…we waved, backed around and down the hill, stopping to capture this charming croft house in the fields below. What history have these places known?

Just a favorite image from our drive through the Highlands the other day.  This croft house is just beyond Bonar Bridge.  The history of crofting is rich, and issues of support for crofting continues to be a major issue in this area.
