Many Scottish castles are grand and glorious, well-documented and open for tourists. But remnants such as these have little except local lore to hold up their remaining walls. I worked on this image to enhance the haunted, historical nature of the scene.

I am always in search of isolated trees that stand tall and speak of the centuries they have known. This grand dame reached into the emerging storm as if in a defiant, celebratory dance. I swear there is celestial music in the Scottish heavens, music we cannot hear but only see. How else to explain the constant shifting of light, the interplay of water and land, the evocation of emotions you don’t even know you feel yet.
