Scottish lochs…tucked away in the Northern Highlands….

I love the freedom of walking in the United Kingdom, where you are welcome to open gates, cross fields, climb hills, cross streams, and feel a part of the land.

Brilliant yellow fields of rapeseed or canola fill the Scottish countryside in July…. hope you feel the wind gusts moving the grasses.

Many Scottish castles are grand and glorious, well-documented and open for tourists. But remnants such as these have little except local lore to hold up their remaining walls. I worked on this image to enhance the haunted, historical nature of the scene.

I am always in search of isolated trees that stand tall and speak of the centuries they have known.  This grand dame reached into the emerging storm as if in a defiant, celebratory dance.  I’ve enhanced the blue with a florescent tinge to give her the radiance I think she deserves. The white boat rested quietly in the harbor of Stromness where we stopped for lunch. To me, it represents the peacefulness of this farming island….

I’ve told people I believe there are fairies out there on the links of the Old Course, where folks have wondered in from the sea, bashing small objects with sticks since the 1400s.

Highland Dancers: What dedication, what art, what talent, what plaids!

I swear there is celestial music in the Scottish heavens, music we cannot hear but only see. How else to explain the constant shifting of light, the interplay of water and land, the evocation of emotions you don’t even know you feel yet.

We were just leaving Brora Golf Course on the coast in Sutherland. These boys and their dog were determined to get in another hole or two….
