The ecologically and economically conscious British, however, are all about the Washing Line, whether rotary, fixed, portable, or retractable. As a result, everything we wore on our trip smelled fresh, and delightful scenes like this one abound.

Many Scottish castles are grand and glorious, well-documented and open for tourists. But remnants such as these have little except local lore to hold up their remaining walls. I worked on this image to enhance the haunted, historical nature of the scene.

We ate a quick bite while 50 mile per hour winds bashed the thin walls of the cafe; hit wildly erratic golf balls across the cove on #18 of Durness Golf Course; toured the cemetery on a blustery hillside; and finally came to Smoo Cave.
