Country / City Communion: Croick Church and Dornoch Cathedral
Posted by Sally on Monday, August 17th, 2009
Most Sundays we attend the Dornoch Cathedral while we’re here.
We love the dynamic pastor, Susan Brown, who reminds us of our own beloved Pam Dreisell at Oconee Presbyterian back in Oconee County, Georgia. (A shout out to our friends there!)
But last week was the one Sunday a year when area churches celebrate a community table communion at Croick Church out past Bonar Bridge about 10 miles on a single lane very country road into the hills. Read more about it’s incredible place in history during the Scottish Clearances by clicking HERE. About 90 people were evicted from their lands and huddled outside this church where they wrote inscriptions in the window glass, still visible today.
We especially were awed by the incredible acoustics as our group of about 50 sang old hymns together. Then Susan led us through communion at a share table where all passed the bread and wine to one another. An amazing day in an amazing site. I’d like to share some of my perceptions of the day. May peace be with you as you enjoy these.
