Country / City Communion: Croick Church and Dornoch Cathedral
Sally on Aug 17th 2009
Most Sundays we attend the Dornoch Cathedral while we’re here. We love the dynamic pastor, Susan Brown, who reminds us of our own beloved Pam Dreisell at Oconee Presbyterian back in Oconee County, Georgia. (A shout out to our friends there!) But last week was the one Sunday a year when area churches celebrate a [...]
Fine Art Photo of the Day: Croft House, the Highlands
Sally on Aug 14th 2009
Just a favorite image from our drive through the Highlands the other day. This croft house is just beyond Bonar Bridge. The history of crofting is rich, and issues of support for crofting continues to be a major issue in this area.

Good Night from Glenuig, Dornoch, Scotland
Sally on Aug 8th 2009
Sometimes you don’t have to go far afield for beauty–such is life at Glenuig. Struie Hill Rain View from Home, Glenuig Dornoch is just up the road a mile–here’s the castle at sunset. Ah…in for the night!
Climbing Ben Bhraggie, Scotland
Sally on Aug 8th 2009
Sandra and I should have checked a map for the hike up Ben Bhraggie, just north of Golspie, East Sutherland, Scotland. But it was a glorious day! Between us we have 130 years, but neither she, the local, nor I, the visitor, had made this walk, and we were eager! We could see for miles [...]
Visit Carnoustie 3/3: Recommendations
Sally on Aug 3rd 2009
Golfers head to Carnoustie for the wild and wonderful golf courses. We played all three public links: Buddin, Burnside, and the Championship; see previous blog for golf report and photographs. But you need some R&R after the round. We highly recommend the beautiful Parkhouse B&B. It’s just a 10 minute walk (or quick drive) to [...]
Carnoustie 2/3: Carnoustie Ladies Golf Club and Putting Contest
Sally on Aug 3rd 2009
The Carnoustie golf links are all public. Clubs surround the properties, however, and that’s how locals enjoy special membership privileges. The LADIES Golf Club of Carnoustie is the oldest women’s golf club in the world, founded in 1873, as the sign outside their clubhouse, just across from the course, proudly announces. We were privileged to [...]
Carnoustie Part I/3: New Fine Art Photographs
Sally on Aug 3rd 2009
I begin our time in Scotland with three special memories of Carnoustie, just 45 minutes north of St. Andrews on the east coast. We played all three Carnoustie public links courses: the Buddon (named for the nearby military base where you overhear machine gun fire constantly), the Burnside, and finally, on day 3, the Championship. [...]
