Five Reasons to Get Away to Dornoch, Scotland
Posted by admin on Friday, June 26th, 2009
1. Every summer Saturday, local pipe and drums and highland dancers march through the square and perform in front of the grand cathedral. The Dornoch Pipe Band is rated one of the top 5 small pipe bands in the world. When they attend competitions, the other local band, The Sutherland Caledonian, takes over. People enjoy their neighbors, children, dogs, and a bit of ice cream while cheering on the local talents.
2. The Royal Dornoch Golf Club. Golf links were first established here in 1616, not long after St. Andrews in 1552! The views are stunning from every hole, the tradition rich, and the golfers delightful!
3. History. From the cathedral to the castle to the home of Donald Ross, world-famous golf course designer, to the wonderful Historylinks Museum, Dornoch has so much to discover!
4. The beauty of the town with its juxtaposition of stone and flowers and the surrounding area–with easy access to the Northern Highlands.
5. Our house for August in Dornoch! On the way out of town is our rental home for the month.
What do you think? Wanta’ come along?

we have just spent a week in Glenuig and had absolutely fabulous weather. It is my childhood home, and I love it as do my husband and 2 boys!!
I am delighted that you and your husband get so much pleasure from staying there. It really is a magical place.
I wish you both great fun and great holidays and am looking forward to tracking your travels….

I do truly love the place and can feel the love IN it! Thrilled to have you on board with us! Don’t know how you ever leave! We’re avid golfers, and I love to hike. We totally fell in love with the Highlands last year so a month seems far too short! I promise Glenuig will be filled with joy for all of August! We’ll stay in touch too…Sandra is a perfect hostess in your absence! Sally and Rex
